Alright, let’s talk about these high carbohydrate shakes, you know, the ones they say give you energy. I ain’t no fancy doctor or nothin’, but I know a thing or two about gettin’ through the day, and sometimes you just need a little somethin’ extra.
Now, what in the world are these shakes anyway? Well, from what I gather, they’re drinks packed with stuff called carbohydrates. Sounds complicated, huh? It ain’t. It’s just the stuff that gives your body fuel, like gas for a car. You eat bread, potatoes, rice, that’s all carbohydrates. These shakes just pack a whole bunch of it into one drink.
Why would anyone want a high carbohydrate shake? Well, I reckon it’s for folks who need a quick burst of energy. Maybe you’re workin’ hard all day, farmin’ or buildin’ or whatnot. Or maybe you’re one of them sporty types, runnin’ around all the time. These shakes can give you that extra oomph to keep goin’.
- For workin’ folks: If you’re tired and need to keep movin’, a shake might help. It’s quicker than eatin’ a whole plate of food, that’s for sure.
- For athletes: Them young’uns who play sports all day, they need lots of energy. A shake can help them recover after a tough game or practice.
- For skinny folks: Some folks just have a hard time puttin’ on weight. These shakes can help with that, fillin’ you up with extra calories and all that.
Now, what goes into makin’ one of these shakes? Well, you can buy ’em ready-made, I suppose, but if you’re like me and like to know what you’re puttin’ in your body, you can make ’em yourself.
Here’s some stuff I heard you can use:
You can put in some oats, the kind you eat for breakfast. Or some of that quinoa stuff, though I ain’t never cooked it myself. Barley, too, if you got it. All that stuff gives you the carbs, you see. And fiber, whatever that is, but they say it’s good for you.
Now, if you want it sweet, you can add a little honey or some of that maple syrup. Don’t go overboard, though, too much sugar ain’t good for ya.
Then you need somethin’ to make it liquidy. Milk works good, or you can use water if you ain’t got milk. Some folks put in yogurt, too, makes it creamy. And if you’re tryin’ to build up your muscles, you can add some of that protein powder stuff. I ain’t sure what it is, but they say it helps.
Here’s a simple one, like I heard it:
Take a cup of milk, the kind without the fat. Add a scoop of that whey protein powder stuff. Then throw in some oats, maybe half a cup or so. If you want it sweeter, add a little honey. Blend it all up in one of them blender machines, and there you go.
But are these shakes good for you? Well, like anything, it depends. If you’re gettin’ enough energy from your regular food, you probably don’t need ’em. And if you ain’t careful, you can pack on the pounds with all them extra calories. But if you’re workin’ hard or playin’ hard, and you need a little boost, a shake might be just the thing. Just don’t go relyin’ on ’em too much, you still gotta eat your vegetables!
And remember, just ’cause somethin’ says it’s “high carbohydrate” don’t mean it’s good for ya. Look at the label, see what’s in it. Too much sugar or other junk ain’t healthy. Stick to natural stuff, like oats and fruit, if you can. That’s what I always say, keep it simple and keep it natural, just like the good Lord intended.
